Who we are
Pii-Maleng Smart Water Company Limited is a Ugandan company based in Gulu City. We build, own and run small piped water systems in Northern Uganda, and sell safe, metered water to households, schools, health centres and small businesses.
Registered in Uganda as a private company limited by shares: URSB registration no. 80034295844826. URA tax identification number 1057732803.
Where we work
- Kitgum Municipality, Kitgum District: selling since April 2024, two kiosks.
- Paicho, Gulu District: selling since May 2026, three kiosks and 25 household yard taps.
- Awach, Gulu District: needs funding to start.

How a system works
Solar pumps lift water from a borehole checked by a hydrogeologist to the main kiosk. There it is dosed with chlorine, filtered through 5 microns and stored in a 10,000-litre tank. A main line carries it to up to five more kiosks and to homes, schools and health centres along the way. Every kiosk purifies the water again before the tap, and our water quality officer takes routine samples. The standard design allows up to six kiosks and at least 200 household yard taps per system.
The business model
Customers pay by the metered litre. That income operates and repairs each system, and any surplus goes into more connections. We record opening and closing meter readings every day, and a supervisor approves them. Today customers pay in cash, and digital token and mobile money payments are not live yet.
